Bad blogger...
I realized yesterday that it had been an entire month since I last updated this blog. I'll try to get everything from the last month into one post so you'll want to grab a coffee and a blanket. You might be here for a while.
Right after my last post Matt and I went to Phoenix to visit my grandparents. It was a very relaxing trip and we got some early season golf in while we were there. My grandma and grandpa live in a very nice retirement community and Matt and I can see ourselves living in a place like that when we get older. It was hard to leave the kids but Grammie Deb and Papa Doyle came to stay with the kids while we were gone so G and C probably thought it was a vacation for them too.
Matt went up to Sioux Falls the following weekend forthe Siouxland Trombone Festival. Think of it like a Star Trek convention but trombones instead of sci-fi. I used to go along pre-kids and they really are quite fun.
The following week was spring break for me. I stayed home with the kids and we played all week. Monday was the only day nice enough to play outside so we went to see Matt at work and took a walk around the parade field. This was particularly fun for Gabrielle since she has developed a new love for airplanes in the last month or so. Everytime she hears one flying by outside, which is pretty frequently, she runs to the patio doors and shouts, "Airpane!" She likes to wave bye-bye to the planes and if you ask her where the plane is going she responds with any of a variety of family members, i.e. Rockah, Whiteen, Deb, Dean, Uncah Ohn(Uncle Jon), etc. Anyway...we got to see a number of planes taking off and landing in the 30 minutes or so we where there. I think she'll have a great time in a couple of weeks when we take the kids to the airshow.
Colin also had his 9 month check up over my break. He now weighs 22 lbs 9 oz and is 31.5 inches long. He's still around the 75th %-ile for weight and entirely off the chart for height. He's got the army crawl down pat and is working on getting up on all fours. He's done it a few times but resorts to the army crawl because that is faster. He has started pulling himself up to stand next to the furniture and various toys, etc. He will usually stand and play with something for a while and then cry because he can't get down on his own. This latest development has led to him getting into more trouble than he used to but I guess he's just proving that he's a little boy.
I took him to get his 9 month pictures taken that week too but didn't end up buying any. I was pretty bummed, actually pissed, at the photographer. She was pretty young, like HS young, and was runny behind on her appointments so she rushed us through the sitting and never got one picture of Colin smiling. She would tell me how to pose him and as soon as he was sitting she would take the picture and not even try to get him to smile. Then she acted all surprised when I didn't buy anything. So, I don't know if we're going to go try to do his pictures sometime this week or next but since he's 10 months old now and will be almost 11 months old before Matt and I are home at the same time again we might just wait until he's a year. Who knows...
Rox and Whit were both home for Easter so we went home for a quick visit. Gabrielle did a great job hunting easter eggs and Colin found one too. I think we're almost finished eating all of the chocolate that we got from the Easter bunny so Gabrielle should be coming down off the "choco" high any day now.
The following weekend we had G's birthday party. I can hardly believe that she's 2 already. I made her an Elmo cake, she had an Elmo balloon, and she got various Elmo clothes and toys as gifts. She got an Elmo TMX from Dan and Brea but she's afraid of it. I think she's just afraid of anything that moves by itself. She doesn't like the train Colin got for Christmas and she didn't like the little wind up chick that the Easter bunny brought either. I'm sure she'll grow out of it though so for now Elmo stays in the box. She also got a bubble machine that she wasn't real fond of at first. She actually tried to put the wrapping paper back on it when she saw what it was. It is in the shape of a monster though so I think that was the problem. Luckily the monster is kind of blueish in color so we told her that it was Cookie Monster and now she loves it. We have played "bubbos" every day this week.
I took the kids to the zoo yesterday morning and we had a good time. It was the first time I had taken both of them out by myself. We were only out for a total of 2.5 hours so it was pretty easy. Gabrielle really liked the "munk-uhs" (monkeys) and Colin got pretty excited when he saw the bears. We got a zoo pass this year so I'm sure we'll be back there a few times this summer.
I added a couple dozen pictures to the Shutterfly site this morning. There are some from Easter, Gabrielle's birthday, and a couple from the zoo. Colin discovered how much fun it is to unroll the toilet paper this morning and I caught him doing it...isn't he a little young for this? The last few are of Gabrielle helping with the laundry. She has helped before with putting the wet clothes into the dryer but today she put the laundry in the wash too. Now if she could only reach the knobs...
