Butt-flap PJs

I always thought it would be cool to have pajamas with the little flap over the butt. Not that the flap is functional at all, but I've always thought they looked cute. Gabrielle got a pair for Christmas and they're even personalized with her name emblazoned across the behind. She's big enough to wear them now so we took a few pictures.

Two is also doing well as near as I can tell. My belly is definitely growing though I still have students asking me if I'm pregnant. One student asked, "Are you pregnant?" I said yes and his next question was, "Are you married?" Am I the only one who finds this funny?

Two pictures

With some guidance from my wonderful husband I figured out how to get the scanner to make a JPEG. So here he is...my not so bashful son. You can also see his leg bones, hips, and lumbar vertebrae in the shot.
This picture is of his face. You can see his nose and upper lip, but he was being shy at this point and was sort of hiding behind his arm. During the ultrasound I saw him making a chewing motion and then he yawned. Pretty crazy...

Snips and snails, and puppy dog tails...

I'm having issues with the scanner and can't figure it out to show you the pictures but, ultrasound confirms that Two is a boy. He was not at all shy about it either. He sat real nice for his picture and everything--and if he ever lets anyone take a picture of his peepee again he'll be in big trouble. All is well though and he looks fine. He's got all 4 limbs, 2 kidneys, a bladder, 4 heart chambers, umbilical cord, etc. Today his heart rate was 145 which is also good. The technician said that based on Two's measurements the due date should be 6/12 instead of 6/24, but this could just be a big baby--he currently weighs one pound.

We've sort of got a name dilemma however. We had been thinking of all kinds of girl names and not really any boy names. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Long time no blog

So long, as a matter of fact, that I almost forgot my password. That's mommy brain for you though. A few things have gone on in the past week or so.

In no particular order, my mom came for a visit this past weekend which served dual purpose--partially to watch Gabrielle while Matt and I went to the All-City banquet and I conducted the All-City concert, and partially to keep me company while Matt is gone. It gets really lonely fast when you're used to having someone else to talk to. I can talk to Gabrielle and Molly, but Gabrielle only says "ba-ba," which is her version of bye-bye and Molly just kind of sits there.

Gabrielle has started pulling herself up to the furniture. The first couple of tries took her a while, but now she has pretty well mastered the task. She hasn't figured out the balance thing yet though and frequently lets go and falls down. Then she gets pissed and cries, but only for a second or two.

We actually had some measurable snow this past weekend. I think it is the first since the beginning of December and this was only about 1.5" or so. Of course it was 50 degrees today and now it's all melted. I'm not too bummed though--I'm kind of getting used to the non-winter winter.

We found out last week that there is a chance that we could PCS (Permanent Change of Station a.k.a. move) to a band in Belgium. We're still deciding if we want to volunteer but it's looking like we're going to unless any of you have major objections. We wouldn't have to be there until Feb 2007, so we'd still have about a year here before we'd have to leave. That's all still up in the air though.

Valentine's Day is tomorrow and I saw on the news today that the average American spends $108 on Valentine's gifts. Am I a bad mom since I didn't get anything for Gabrielle? It's not like she can eat candy and she's got more toys and clothes than she can handle. Matt's out of town so we'll have to celebrate Valentine's day when he gets back so I guess there is no love for me tomorrow. Oh well, it's just a big commercial holiday anyway.

Tomorrow is also the big ultrasound. My appointment is at 2:45 and as long as Two cooperates we'll find out whether Two is a he or a she. I'm almost kind of nervous this time around. It's this weird feeling that since Gabrielle is so perfect that there will be something wrong with Two. I doubt it but it's still a little freaky. I'll post the results tomorrow night and if I can figure out the scanner I'll try to put up some of the ultrasound pics too.

Here is a picture of Gabrielle with her first go at a teething biscuit. She got all sorts of messy and wanted to touch everything in sight. The picture is from early in the process. Top teeth are coming soon I think.

Two Update

I went to the doctor yesterday and everything appears to be fine. Two's heart rate was 160 bpm. He/she was kicking and moving all over the place when Dr. Tyler was trying to hear his/her heart. I feel him/her moving around a lot now and the movements are starting to get more regular. I go for the big ultrasound on 2/14 so you'll all get a Valentine's Day suprise if Two cooperates. Matt will be out of town for most of February so he won't be there to find out in person, but he'll be the first one I call of course.

Gabrielle is doing great and crawling all over the place. She's fast too. She had her first taste of dog food this afternoon. We had just walked in the door, I let the dog out, and then set her down on the floor so I could run to the bathroom. In the approximately 45 seconds it took me to pee, she crawled from the livingroom into the kitchen and over to the dog bowl. I heard her moving the food around in the bowl just as I was leaving the bathroom and just made it around the corner in time to watch her put a piece of food in her mouth. I got it out as soon as I could but I knew she would get her first taste sooner or later. I'm hoping that she prefers Cheerios instead.
